Ray is a lifelong musician and artist. He lives outside Lansing, Michigan with his wife of 50 years, Olga (@greatskinbyolga).
Ray taught himself how to play music when he was young. Inspired by the rock ’n’ roll of the late 60s and early 70s, he decided to start a band in his early twenties. He didn’t know anyone who played, so he taught his brothers and they started playing around town. While Ray’s music career didn’t exactly take off, it never stopped being an important part of his life. When Ray and Olga had children, Ray taught them to play too. That worked out better.
Ray and Olga spend a lot of time outdoors, no matter the weather. They travel all over the country with their Airstream travel trailer. Ray has run more than ten half marathons, and he says he’s going to “win” the next one.
Ray is assisted in his studio by Charles Baker “Dill” Harris, his 11-year-old rescued tabby cat.
Ray is a proud Mexican American. His folk art reflects his culture and family history.
